Questions

What is a perfect rhyme?
Two words rhyme perfectly when they sound the same from their last stressed vowel to the end: cat and hat, delight and tonight, measure and pleasure. The sounds before that vowel must differ.
What is a near rhyme?
A near rhyme (also called a slant, half or imperfect rhyme) shares some of those sounds but not all, like orange and porridge or home and alone. Poets and songwriters use them when no perfect rhyme fits.
Why are the most common words listed first?
A rhyme only helps if your reader knows the word. We sort every list by how often the word is used in English and tuck rare words away, so the useful rhymes are at the top.
Which words have no rhyme?
Orange, purple, silver, month and wolf have no perfect rhyme among common English words. Each of their pages lists the best near rhymes instead.
Is the list safe for kids?
Yes. Rude and offensive words are filtered out of every list, so teachers and children can use the site.
